Athletics 2018 WDC

Image
Primary 5/6/7 competed in the annual Athletics Competition Event, where lots of schools in West Dunbartonshire, competed against each other in a series of events, including target throwing, relay races, long jump, speed bounce and many more!  Although we were unsuccessful in winning the event, we had a brilliant time meeting other schools and encouraging each other to do our very best; which is the most important thing.  Every person in the class got to participate and experience at least 2 events each.  St Martin's certainly know how to try their best!  Ready to go! St Martin's P5/6/7 The over and under event was really tricky!  Measuring the distance of Shaun's standing long jump. Nikole enjoys her healthy snack! The girls' relay event was very tiring but exciting at the same time! The top 3 teams are announced as Bonhill, Renton and overall winners Christie Park. Well done everyone! We are very proud of each other!

Burn's Day Celebrations

Image
We enjoyed creating invitations and designing menus to celebrate Robert Burns and his famous "Address to a Haggis".  The best thing about it seemed to be the (sugar free) Irn Bru and (not so sugar free, shortbread) as a wee treat!  Some children even tried haggis for the very first time! As you will see from some of the photos, MOST people enjoyed the taste! The children all sang along to Auld Lang Syne  and Loch Lomond . Aidan and Ava are a little unsure! Smiles all round with the haggis! Erin loved the shortbread! Cheers from Mirin and Abi!  Erin loved the delicious treats! Nikole and John Paul thoroughly enjoyed our Burn's Day Celebration Adam looks delighted with the special treat (sugar free of course! These children all loved the special  Cayden tried haggis for the very first time.  He said it was "strange but nice". These three children were proud of their Invitation to a Burns Supper!

Enterprise Project

Image
We have thoroughly enjoyed planning and carrying out our Enterprise task of organising a cake sale for charity. We worked within a budget of £20 and managed to make a profit of £88 which will be donated to the charity CHAS at Robin House.  We are very proud to have worked co-operatively and enjoyed the feeling of making money for a good cause. Our cakes were delicious too! Thank you to our lovely dinner ladies for their time and effort too. Getting ready to sell, sell sell! P5/6/7 Mr Kennedy purchased a lovely treat!  Counting the proceeds and working out our profit. Putting our maths skills into action!                                                    A very successful day!

WW2 Artefacts

Image
We have been discussing our new topic of WW II and handling artefacts from this period of time. We were fascinated because they are so basic compared to what we have now.  Wooden toys seemed really old fashioned and boring compared to our i-pads, tablets and computers.  Isabella and Chloe. When I tried on the gas mask, it felt really strange because it was so heavy and I kept having to hold it up in place.  I think it would've been scary to turn around and see your friends wearing these not knowing where you were running to when the sirens went off.  It smelled really funny too.  Ava Kennedy The jumper, mits and balaclava showed how cold it must've been.  The material was not comfortable at all, it was really itchy!
